Chapter 6

Paul

Slowly, Tess awoke from her blackout. Her body felt strange, like it was moving. There was a soft hum.

Slowly, her vision returned to her. What started out blurry quickly materialized into the inside of a moving airplane. Out the windows, clouds were floating quickly past.

She had been drugged and brought onto an airplane.

“Oh God,” she thought to herself. “What’s happening?”

She was still groggy, but she tried to pull herself up. She looked around the plane. She was alone in a long room—a private jet, which was expensively set up with leather couches, the bed that she was on, and a wooden bar.

Paul was nowhere to be seen.

“H—Hello?” Tess called out.

Suddenly, a door at one end of the room opened up. Paul, dressed in a crisp black suit walked into the room.

“Hello, my darling,” he said.

“Where am I? What did you do?”

“You are on your way to the most incredible vacation of your entire life!” Paul said with excitement.

He took a seat next to the lethargic Tess. “Look at it this way—You get to spend the weekend with one of Time magazine’s most eligible bachelors of 2014.”

“I don’t want to—Take me home and I won’t call the cops.”

Paul laughed. “There are no ‘cops’ where we’re going. There aren’t even phones! It’ll just be you and me—a romantic getaway.”

“You’re insane.”

“Am I?” Paul asked.

“Yes.”

“How’s about this—I’ll give you a kiss. And then, if you still feel like I’m insane, you can let me know.”

Paul leaned himself in to kiss Tess. Tess tried to squirm away, but Paul wrapped his thick muscular arms around her. She could feel the thick veins pulsing in his arms as he leaned in close.

Without warning or permission, he laid his lips right on hers—a trick that likely worked with every single girl in the past for him—but not with Tess.

As Paul leaned back, Tess spat.

“You’re sick,” she said.

Paul’s expression dropped. He was beginning to realize that maybe Tess wasn’t playing hard to get. Maybe he was dealing with a girl who didn’t care about all of his money and future fame—or his muscles and good looks. This girl was different.

The idea that he couldn’t have what he wanted made him increasingly frustrated. He stood up, grabbed a wine glass off of a table and threw it powerfully against the plane wall.

“Fuck!” he screamed. He pointed at Tess with a serious look on his face. “I’m going to go into the other room for the rest of the flight. When we get to my island, you’re going to enjoy yourself,” he said sternly.

Tess was terrified—afraid for her life.

“O—Okay,” she said.

On Paul’s way out of the room, he kicked a table and slammed the door behind him.

This wasn’t just some guy being outgoing and messing around—this was full blown sociopathic behaviour. A horrible sense of dread crossed over Tess’ heart as she looked out the window.

They were so high up in the sky, you couldn’t even see the ground below. As for which direction they were headed, or where they were going—Tess had no idea.
